00047 - How should I go about finding out what is consuming the most resources on my system? (91)
Use the System Navigator PDFs to identify any specific jobs that are consuming a significant amount of CPU, memory or disk activity. Also note how constrained these resources are at the system level throughout the day. Use the Workload Navigator in conjunction with these to identify top jobs, users and subsystems.

There may not be any one job that consumes a lot of resources. The System Navigator PDFs focus on the top 45 CPU consuming job numbers. You may find that there are a lot of little jobs on the system that add up to big issues. Use the Workload Navigator to identify these. All jobs are shown in this tool. Find job names that consume an unreasonable amount of resources. Find specific users that consume more than they should. Look for the 80/20 rule. 80% of the resources are typically consumed by 20% of the jobs or users.

If data replication software is consuming more than 2% of your resources, use our Journal Optimizer to make journaling more efficient on your system. If SQL or query activity is impacting the system, use our Query Optimizer to improve the performance through SQL and database tuning. If RPG, COBOL, CL, C or JAVA code are impacting the system, use our Application Optimizer to show CPU by line of source code.
